Common questions

Is there any downtime?

You'll have 7 to 10 days of visible healing. Your brows look very dark and bold for the first 2 or 3 days, then start flaking and peeling from day 3 to 7. During this time they can look patchy and uneven, but most people carry on with normal life and just let them do their thing. You can't put

Does it hurt?

It's quite manageable — we put numbing cream on before and during, so most people say it feels like firm scratching or light pressure rather than anything sharp. The combination of manual blade and machine work means slightly more sensation than single-method treatments, but the anaesthetic keeps you comfortable throughout.

How many sessions will I need?

You need two sessions to complete the treatment: your first session, then the mandatory colour boost 6 to 8 weeks later. If you've got a wedding, holiday or big event coming up, it's worth starting at least 12 weeks beforehand so everything's fully healed and settled in time.

How long do the results last?

You'll see the colour straight away, but it darkens significantly over the first 3 to 5 days. After the flaking settles, your true colour starts showing from around day 14 to 21, with the final result visible at 6 to 8 weeks once your colour boost perfects everything. From there it typically lasts 12 to 24 months, depending on your skin type, lifestyle and how much sun you get.

Are there any side effects?

It's normal to have redness and swelling around the brows straight after, and you might see tiny pinpoint dots of blood during the procedure. The area feels tender and tight for a day or two, and it can itch as it heals between days 3 and 7. Scabbing and flaking is expected, but picking at it causes patchy colour. In rare cases there's a risk of infection if aftercare isn't followed, allergic reaction to the pigment, or scarring from poor technique or interference with healing.

Before your treatment

  • No brow tinting for 2 weeks before — the tint changes how the pigment takes
  • No waxing or threading for 1 week before — we need the natural hair growth to map from
  • No retinol or strong acids on the brow area for 2 weeks — they thin the skin and affect healing
  • No alcohol or heavy caffeine for 24 hours before — both thin the blood and increase bleeding
  • No blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen or aspirin for 1 week before — check with your GP if prescribed
  • No Botox in the forehead for 3 weeks before — it can shift brow position while we map

Aftercare

  • Keep brows completely dry for 7-10 days — no water, steam, or sweat on the area
  • Apply the healing balm in a tiny, almost invisible layer twice daily — never smother the skin
  • Do not pick, scratch or rub the scabs — this pulls pigment out and leaves patches
  • No makeup on or around the brows for 2 weeks — infection risk and pigment interference
  • No swimming, saunas, gyms or heavy exercise for 2 weeks — sweat and chlorine push pigment out
  • Stay out of direct sun for 4 weeks — UV fades the colour and affects how it settles

Who it isn’t suitable for

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding — we cannot treat you until after
  • Uncontrolled diabetes or any bleeding disorder
  • Active skin conditions in the brow area: eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne or open wounds
  • History of keloid or raised scarring
  • Recent chemical peels, laser or fillers in the brow area
  • Chemotherapy or radiotherapy within the last 6 months
  • Autoimmune disorders affecting how your skin heals
  • Allergy to lidocaine or topical numbing creams
  • Existing permanent makeup in the brows that hasn't faded enough to cover

How it compares

✅ Compared with Ombre Brows (1st Session)

  • Front of brow — Combination Brows (1st Session) adds real hair-like strokes at the inner brow so it looks like your own hairs growing there; Ombre Brows (1st Session) uses machine powder all over, so the front looks softly filled-in like makeup rather than natural hairs.
  • Overall look — Combination Brows (1st Session) uses less total pigment for a softer, more believable result that makes people think you just have great natural brows; Ombre Brows (1st Session) deposits more pigment for a denser, more defined, bold filled-in makeup look.
  • How long it lasts — Combination Brows (1st Session) typically lasts 12 to 24 months depending on your skin type, lifestyle and sun exposure; Ombre Brows (1st Session) typically lasts 2 to 3 years, or 18 to 30 months, depending on skin type, sun exposure and skincare routine.
  • Choose ombre if you want a bold, filled-in makeup look that lasts 18-30 months; choose this if you want people to think you just have great natural brows

✅ Compared with Hairstroke Brows

  • Best for — Combination Brows (1st Session) suits sparse or patchy brows, adding soft shading behind strokes so they look full even from a distance; Hairstroke Brows suits people with good natural brow hair who want the most undetectable, natural-looking result.
  • How it looks — Combination Brows (1st Session) creates a gradient effect: fluffy hair-like strokes at the front with defined, powder-soft shading through the body and tail; Hairstroke Brows creates individual hair-like strokes throughout, mimicking natural brow hairs without any powder or shading effect.
  • How long it lasts — Combination Brows (1st Session) typically lasts 12 to 24 months, with the shading component holding colour and fading more evenly than strokes alone; Hairstroke Brows typically lasts 12 to 24 months, though oily skin, sun exposure and strong skincare acids can shorten that to 6 to 12 months.
  • What it feels like — Combination Brows (1st Session) feels like firm scratching or light pressure, with slightly more sensation than single-method treatments due to blade plus machine work; Hairstroke Brows feels like firm scratching or light scraping, with the brow bone feeling more sensitive toward the tail end.
  • Choose hairstrokes if you have good brow hair already and want the most undetectable result; choose this if you need density and want your brows to look full without daily makeup

✅ Compared with Brows Colour Boost 8 Weeks

  • What it is — Combination Brows (1st Session) blends fine hair-like strokes with soft powder shading to create naturally full, defined brows that last; Brows Colour Boost 8 Weeks is the mandatory second session that perfects colour and shape after your initial healing.
  • When you need it — Combination Brows (1st Session) is the start - your first treatment to begin the process; Brows Colour Boost 8 Weeks is the finish - it happens 6 to 8 weeks later and is not a standalone treatment.
  • Healing time — Combination Brows (1st Session) needs 7 to 10 days of visible healing with dark, bold brows at first, then flaking and peeling from day 3 to 7; Brows Colour Boost 8 Weeks has minimal healing since your skin has already been through the main process.
  • Choose this first session to begin; the colour boost happens 6-8 weeks later and is not a standalone treatment

✅ Compared with Brows Colour Boost (6-12 Months)

  • What it's for — Combination Brows (1st Session) builds your brows from scratch if you've never had semi-permanent brows before; Brows Colour Boost (6-12 Months) refreshes existing combination brows to keep them looking fresh.
  • What happens in the session — Combination Brows (1st Session) blends fine hair-like strokes at the front with soft powder shading through the body and tail; Brows Colour Boost (6-12 Months) applies an expert SPMU colour boost for an ombre or powder effect on brows you already have.
  • Healing time — Combination Brows (1st Session) needs 7 to 10 days of visible healing with dark, bold brows at first, then flaking and peeling from day 3 to 7; Brows Colour Boost (6-12 Months) has minimal upkeep and no major healing phase described.
  • Number of sessions needed — Combination Brows (1st Session) needs two sessions: this first one, then a mandatory colour boost 6 to 8 weeks later; Brows Colour Boost (6-12 Months) is a single maintenance session to revitalise your existing brows.
  • Choose this if you've never had semi-permanent brows; choose the 6-12 month boost only if you already have combination brows and want to keep them fresh
