Common questions

Is there any downtime?

You'll usually have some redness and swelling for a day or two, with possible bruising that can be covered with makeup after the first 24 hours. Most people carry on as normal, though you may want to clear your diary for the first day if you are sensitive about looking slightly puffy.

Does it hurt?

It's quite manageable — we put numbing cream on first, and the filler itself contains anaesthetic, so most people feel pressure rather than anything sharp. You might feel brief pinching at each injection point.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people need one session for a noticeable result, with a second session 4 weeks later if you want more volume. If you have a wedding or big event coming up, book at least 4 weeks ahead so everything is settled and looking its best.

How long do the results last?

You'll see the change immediately, with the final result settled at about 1 to 2 weeks once any swelling has gone down. From there it typically lasts 12 to 18 months, depending on how fast your body breaks it down.

Are there any side effects?

It's normal to have some redness, swelling, tenderness and possible bruising at the injection sites for a few days. These settle on their own. Rarely, lumps, infection or more serious complications can occur, which is why the consultation and practitioner skill matter.

Before your appointment

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours — it thins the blood and bruising shows more
  • Stop blood thinners like aspirin or ibuprofen 3 days before if safe to do so
  • Skip fish oil supplements and high-dose vitamin E for a week
  • Do not book if you have a cold sore or skin infection on your face
  • Come with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area

After your treatment

  • Expect redness, swelling and possible bruising for 1 to 3 days
  • No makeup over injection points for 12 to 24 hours
  • Avoid the gym, saunas, hot baths and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours
  • Do not touch or press on your cheeks — let the product settle
  • Sleep on your back the first night if you can
  • Small bumps may be felt for a few hours; gentle massage only if advised

Do not book if

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You are under 18
  • You have had allergic reactions to hyaluronic acid or anaesthetic injections before
  • You have active skin infection, cold sores or inflammation in the cheek area
  • You have a bleeding disorder or take anticoagulant medication like warfarin
  • You have recently had laser, chemical peel or dermabrasion in the area
  • You have a history of thick, raised scarring
